Diary of Cultural events

The only thing in the diary is Mid Wales Opera ......if we are allowed to open !

MWO SmallStages October 2021

Puccini- Il tabarro

Mid Wales Opera presents its fourth SmallStages tour with Puccini's passionate late masterpiece Il tabarro, or ‘The Cloak'. Set on the banks of the Seine, this one act opera tells the short story of the barge owner Michele who suspects his young wife Giorgetta of being unfaithful. Packed with side plots and characters, and with allusions to the sights and sounds of 1900s Paris, the opera reaches its dramatic conclusion when Michele unexpectedly catches his wife's lover at the strike of a match. With its alluring melodies, ebbing flow and incisive pace, Il tabarro sees the great opera composer at the very pinnacle of his powers.

MWO's new production features 6 singers and 4 musicians, with a new English translation by Richard Studer and a new chamber arrangement by Jonathan Lyness. As always with SmallStages, the second half will feature an array of popular and entertaining musical items featuring all singers and musicians for audiences to revel in and enjoy.

Opera duration 50 mins

Second half duration 35 mins
